Colour, Light & Energy: Transgrid’s Vivid Event at the MCA
Electric colour, gold geometry and tiny points of light brought a different kind of energy to the table at this Sydney corporate event.
With Vivid Sydney as the backdrop to the occasion, there was room to be adventurous with the flowers.
For Transgrid’s corporate function at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Circular Quay, we designed, styled and installed arrangements that brought strong colour and a playful sense of structure to the dining tables.
Our client, Transgrid, operates the high-voltage electricity transmission network in New South Wales and the ACT. For an event connected with Sydney’s annual festival of light, an energetic floral scheme felt very much at home.

A Palette with Some Voltage
Deep purple orchids, mauve roses, blue-toned flowers and bright green foliage gave the arrangements their colour. Against white tablecloths, the effect was immediate: concentrated bursts of colour that drew you towards the tables.
There was variety within the scheme. Some arrangements leaned into pink and purple; others pushed further into blue and lime green. Gold vessels connected them, giving the different combinations a shared foundation.
We liked that change of pace across the tables. It kept the room connected while giving each arrangement something of its own.
Flowers, Geometry and Pinpoints of Light
The flowers were only part of the composition. Fine gold geometric outlines rose through the arrangements, their sharp angles contrasting with rounded flower heads and soft, feathery greenery.
Those open shapes added height without becoming a solid barrier. Orchid stems reached between them, while broad leaves gave the arrangements a stronger outline at table level.
Then there were the lights. Tiny warm points threaded through the flowers and foliage, bringing a little sparkle into the centrepieces themselves. Alongside the gold candleholders, they added another layer to the table as the surrounding room grew darker.

Bringing Vivid to the Table
At the MCA, the harbour is part of the experience. The photographs catch the blue-lit curves of the Harbour Bridge beyond the glass, with the flowers and gold details in the foreground.
That contrast is one of our favourite parts of this installation: a large city backdrop, then all the smaller things waiting to be noticed at the table.
The colours had presence from across the room. Up close, there was more to discover—the texture of a flower head, the curve of an orchid stem, a reflection in the gold vessel or a tiny light among the leaves.

From Design to Installation
Our work on the event brought the floral concept, styling and on-site installation together. The finished arrangements needed to make sense within the complete table setting, alongside glassware, place cards, plates and candleholders.
That is where proportions matter. A centrepiece has to contribute to the room and still work for the people sitting around it. Open structures, grouped flowers and repeated gold finishes gave this scheme its balance.
For us, this was a chance to take corporate event flowers somewhere more expressive. The result had colour, movement and sparkle, with enough detail to reward a closer look.
