Bridesmaids’ Bouquets
Why they Matter
Choosing your wedding flowers will be one of the most enjoyable parts your wedding.
Most couples will start with the bridal bouquet and that's natural but I think it's the bridesmaids’ bouquets which tie it all together.
I've created wedding flowers for more than forty years and I know the most beautiful weddings are not about just a single bouquet. I know how bridal and bridesmaids’ bouquets, buttonholes, ceremony and reception flowers should feel connected.
Bridesmaids’ bouquets create balance, they add colour, and they provide the wedding's "texture".
They are about how every floral element works together. and I know that when they do, weddings are beautiful, considered and memorable.

Create Balance
Most weddings feature the bridal bouquet. But that's only part of the story.
The bridesmaid’s bouquets shouldn't be an afterthought. They support the bridal bouquet and have their own presence and character.
Here at Susan Avery, I design the bridesmaids’ bouquets to complement everything through colour, flower selection, texture and shape.
Sometimes the differences are subtle.
Sometimes they are more pronounced.
Susan Avery bouquets are balanced and not repetitive.
The goal is not for everything to match perfectly but for it to be cohesive.
Knowing how your flowers will photograph and how your colours will work together is the most important part of my job. This is often where my experience becomes valuable.

Choose The Right Flowers
Many of my couples start by asking, "What bridesmaid's flowers do I need?"
I always say the answer depends on season, venue, your bridal gown, the colour palette and the overall wedding style.
You shouldn't select flowers individually. You should think about your bridal party as a whole.
Once that's visualised, I'll design natural bouquets which won't feel like separate pieces competing for attention.
We encourage you to select seasonal flowers as they'll give the most beautiful results and have a natural ease about them.

Who Needs A Bouquet?
Even though every wedding is different, traditionally every bridesmaid carries a bouquet..
Often, too, couples want bouquets for their flower-girls and junior bridesmaids.
Remember that your flowers should reflect the people who are important to you and your wedding.
The choice is yours. There are no strict rules. Just make sure the flowers contribute and complement your day's look and feel.
During our consultations, we'll help you decide which flowers best suit your bridal party and wedding style.
For Sydney Weddings
Sydney weddings are wonderfully varied.
Every harbour-side ceremony, church wedding, garden celebration, or luxury hotel reception is different and each needs a unique approach.
My job is not simply to provide flowers.
For over forty years I've designed wedding flowers for large and small celebrations. Many of those were formal and many were relaxed.
Allow my experience to guide you towards floral choices which will suit your wedding style and venue. I'll help you make confident decisions and get your wedding flowers right.

Design For Your Venue
A bouquet which suits a garden wedding will feel completely different in a cathedral, or a waterfront setting, or a ballroom.
As an experienced wedding florist, I understand how your flowers can interact with your venue. I've designed wedding flowers for more than four decades and I know the flowers and the settings where they'll be seen.
And I'll make sure they are part of your cohesive wedding design.
Your Wedding Photos
Your wedding flowers will be in all your photos. Personally, mine have been "on the mantlepiece" for decades.
When designing your bridesmaids’ bouquets I factor in how they'll photograph next to the bridal bouquet, the wedding gowns, and the venue surroundings.
The bouquets should feel balanced when viewed as a group and they should enhance rather than distract from the people carrying them.
These considerations will make a significant difference in your photos.

Our Approach
Every bridal party is different.
Some couples arrive with a very clear vision.
Others know what they like when they see it.
Others are unsure where to begin.
All approaches are perfectly normal.
During our consultations I spend a lot of time understanding your wedding and the atmosphere you're creating.
From there I develop a floral design which feels personal to your day and works seamlessly across every part.
The result will be a cohesive, elegant and timeless bridal party.
More Than Forty Years Of Wedding Experience
Wedding flowers involve far more than selecting beautiful blooms.
Timing, flower conditioning, transportation, installation, weather and venue logistics all play a role in a successful wedding day.
I've designed wedding flowers for a long time and I understand the practical details behind bouquet design and handling.
My experience allows our couples to enjoy the planning process while, at the same time, know they're in experienced hands.
